December 5: Major Updates

Hello everyone! Sorry it’s been a while since my last update, but I’ve been pretty busy! Here’s all of the new things going on in my life:

My roommates and I watched a kitten for a few days in our apartment!
  • All of my dog-sitting experience has paid off. I just got back to my apartment for the first time in 4 days because I was staying at one of my coworkers apartments with her dog while she was on vacation! I had a ton of fun playing with her dog and it was a great trial run for living alone in Shanghai. Which brings me to…

We made these adorable (and delicious) reindeer cakes with some students at my school!

I’m moving! Well, I’m trying to move. The situation with my current apartment is not ideal for a variety of reasons, and I have come to the conclusion that the problems cannot be fixed, so I should just move. For the past few weeks my room has been listed on a number of WeChat groups, facebook pages, agency listings, etc., but I have not yet found someone to take my place. I have also been looking for another apartment. The main problem is that the real estate market moves very quickly in Shanghai, so if I find an apartment I like, they want me to move in the next day (I’m not even exaggerating). Basically, I’m currently just waiting for someone to take my spot in my apartment, and then I’ll find somewhere new to live and move very quickly!

  • I’m getting sick. I have a cold (thanks to all of my disgusting, I mean adorable kids). Actually though, most of my kids are amazing, but they spread a lot of germs. Being sick in China is a little bit different than being sick at home. I’ve been wearing a mask outside (partially to not spread my germs and partially to not breathe in the heavily polluted air) and I’ve been eating a lot of soup. I’ve also been drinking some oolong tea. I really don’t want to be sick though, because…
  • I’m going to Hong Kong on Sunday! I’m taking three days off of work to go visit one of my best friends in Hong Kong! I’m so excited to get out of Shanghai for a few days!
  • I’ve officially been in China for more than 100 days!
We had a classroom decorating contest at my school! Here’s my team outside of one of our classrooms

That’s all. I promise I’ll post sooner next time!
