It’s wild to realize that I’m coming up on a year of being out of undergrad. A year ago, I would never have imagined that my life would be going the direction it is.
(skip to the end for pictures)
I’m also hitting the 9-month mark in China (in two days). It’s crazy to think that there are only 3 months left in my contract! With only three months left, the director of my school approached me and asked me to renew my contract. She gave me a few weeks to think about it, and like I’ve been saying for the past year, I still don’t know what I’m going to do.
In some ways, I feel like I dodged the job hunt bullet last year. I signed on to live in China in the beginning of February during my senior year of college. While most of my friends applied for jobs and worried about paying bills and finding apartments, I knew that I was moving to China with a stable job, and that the rest would have to wait. Now, having to start applying to jobs outside of China seems like a lot of effort.
While I am still as underqualified as I was a year ago, being in the process of getting my masters degree gives me some hope. My classes have also been confirming that international relations is the right path for me. I’m currently taking a diplomacy class and it’s so interesting!
As soon as I know what I’m planning to do after August 23rd (the official last day of my contract), I’ll let you all know. If I stay, I’m hoping that I can come back to the states for a while, but if I leave, who knows where I’ll be going.
While all of this is daunting, I’ve (finally) settled into this whole adulting thing. My days now consist of doing my homework, going to work, hanging out with friends, happy hour when possible, going for a run, and playing with my cat.
