Hello friends and family! I’m coming home! Surprise!!!
(I’m not joking this time)
If you don’t want to reread all of those, the July 30th post is probably the one that sums up how I’m feeling about coming home.
While I feel a lot of anxiety about what reverse culture shock is going to look like for me, I’m really excited to be coming back! My flight has been booked for almost 2 months and I’ll be back in Minnesota the evening of December 20th! That’s exactly two weeks from now, and believe me, I’m 100% ready and 100% not ready all at the same time.
In case you’ve forgotten, here’s what the leaving process looks like, I need to:
- Cancel my visa (which requires 2 trips to the government office). They will hold my passport for 8 days to cancel my current visa and put me on another visa. By the time I leave, I will have something like 7 pages of Chinese visas in my passport.
- Get Monty’s paperwork ready. All of this is very time-sensitive, so I don’t get a lot of choice in when I’ll be doing this. He’ll have some blood tests done exactly 7 days before our flight at the government vet, and then 2 days before the flight, I can pick up the rest of his paperwork at a customs office.
- Clean out my apartment.
- Handover all of my classes and tasks at work. This process has already started, but it gets busier each week. Luckily, almost all of my classes are being given to the same new teacher, and he’s great.
- Officially ‘check-out’ of my apartment.
- Fly home!
When I get back to the US, I would love to see and talk to all of you! I won’t have a cell phone number at first, so the best way to contact me will still be through social media or email.
Happy Holidays! I’ll see you all very soon!!!
